Darryn Binder, born on 21 January 1998 in Potchefstroom, South Africa, is undoubtedly an up-and-coming force in motorbike racing. As the younger brother of 2016 Moto3 World Champion Brad Binder, he has had an impressive racing career. This text takes a look at his career to date, highlights, challenges and his current position in the Moto2 class.
Darryn Binder's motorsport journey began on a kart before he switched to two wheels at the age of eight. His talent became apparent early on and he shone in races in South Africa. He spent 2013 and 2014 in the Red Bull Rookies Cup, which is regarded as a springboard for young talent.
He made his debut in the Moto3 World Championship in 2015, where he contested a total of seven seasons in this class on Mahindra, KTM and Honda.
Following his entry into the Moto3 World Championship, 2016 was not without its challenges for Darryns. However, as part of the Platinum Bay Real Estate team, he fought his way forward over the course of the season and achieved his best result of the season with fourth place in Phillip Island. Nevertheless, he finished 25th overall.
In the following years, Darryn Binder switched to various teams, including Red Bull KTM Ajo and Team CIP Green Power. He fought his way to podium finishes and showed steady progress. Highlights included his first podium in Motegi in 2018 and another podium in Argentina in 2019.

The 2020 season marked a turning point for Darryn Binder when he celebrated his first Grand Prix victory in Barcelona. Despite a promising 2021 season with a 3rd and a 2nd place, he later started the rest of the year without any further podium finishes. His switch to the MotoGP class for the 2022 season with the RNF Racing Team brought new challenges. In MotoGP, he competed against his brother Brad, among others, and Darryn finished the season in 24th place overall.
After two difficult years with the German Dynavolt Intact GP team, which Darryn Binder finished 20th (2023) and 19th (2024) overall in the Moto2 World Championship, the South African was consciously looking for a new sporting challenge for 2025.
The next step in his development was to follow with the move to Gresini Racing. However, the 2025 season continued to be difficult: injury-related setbacks and a lack of consistency prevented the hoped-for breakthrough. In the end, Binder finished 25th overall and fell short of his own expectations.
Binder is now realigning his focus for 2026 and opening another chapter in his career: The switch to the MotoAmerica Supersport class marks a deliberate new start away from the Grand Prix stage. In the USA, the experienced world championship rider wants to prove his qualities in a new environment and regularly fight for top placings again.
The objective is clearly formulated: to regain sporting stability, build up self-confidence and establish himself in the top field in a new championship.
