Operating instructions |
• Low-maintenance, sealed lead-acid batteries must be checked regularly for electrolyte level and topped off with distilled or demineralized water as needed.
• The vent caps may be opened to check the electrolyte level and add water.
• Some battery types can be equipped with an automatic water-filling system to simplify maintenance and extend service intervals.
• Always follow all warnings and safety instructions.
• The temperature of the battery and battery acid should ideally be above 10 °C.
• The battery must only be installed and operated in the intended upright position.
• Ensure that the battery is adequately ventilated. Vent holes must not be blocked or covered.
Batteries can lose charge during storage. We therefore recommend fully charging each battery before installation to ensure optimum performance.
If you are unsure about removing or installing the battery, please contact a qualified specialist workshop.
Removal:
• Switch off the engine and all electrical consumers.
• Expose the battery removal area.
• First disconnect the negative terminal (-), then the positive terminal (+).
Installation:
• Expose the installation area of the battery.
• Avoid short circuits (e.g. using tools).
• First connect the positive terminal (+), then the negative terminal (-).
• Ensure that the terminal clamps are firmly and securely seated.
• Transfer any existing parts (e.g. terminal caps, brackets, hose connections or connection holders) from the old battery to the new one.
• Always store batteries in a cool, dry and upright position.
• Protect from direct sunlight.
• Secure the positive terminal against short circuits (e.g. with a terminal cap or insulating tape).
• Always store filled batteries upright and secure against tipping over to prevent acid leakage.
• When transporting: Only transport batteries in an upright position and secure them against tipping over.
• Check the charge regularly and recharge if necessary (see chapter 6 „Charging the battery externally“).
• Keep battery surfaces clean and dry. Clean only with a damp or antistatic cloth.
• Protect the terminals and connection clamps from corrosion and treat them with acid-free grease.
• If performance is insufficient, check the battery and recharge it if necessary.
• During extended periods of inactivity, check the voltage regularly and recharge as needed.
• Check the electrolyte level regularly. Shorter inspection intervals are required during high temperatures or intensive charging/discharging cycles.
• If the electrolyte level is too low, top off with distilled or demineralized water only up to the specified fill level. Do not add acid, and avoid overfilling.
• For batteries with a water-filling system, regularly check the system for secure fit, leaks, and proper
function. Follow the instructions for the water-filling system.
• A water-filling system simplifies refilling and can extend service intervals. However, regular inspection of the battery and the filling system is still required.
• Only use suitable chargers and observe the operating instructions for the charger.
• Do not charge frozen batteries or batteries with a temperature above 45 °C.
• Connect the positive terminal (+) of the battery to the positive terminal of the charger and the negative terminal (-) of the battery to the negative terminal of the charger.
• Only switch on/plug in the charger after connecting the battery.
• When charging is complete, first switch off the charger and then disconnect the connections.
• Interrupt the charging process immediately if the battery becomes hot or leaks acid.
