Flooded battery technology

WHAT IS A FLOODED BATTERY?

The flooded battery is the original variant of the lead-acid battery. All other AGM and GEL technologies are based on it. The basic principle remains the same: A box, lead plates coated with positive and negative material, sulfuric acid as electrolyte, which provides the chemical reaction. Proven, but not obsolete.

The grid makes the difference

Copper expanded metal grids are used in starter batteries. Thin plates, with short current conduction to the center track, which provide the current quickly.

In small traction applications for small industrial trucks or electric wheelchairs, people work with slightly thicker cast grids to carry higher currents and achieve higher cycle stability. In a pinch, they can also start a vehicle and operate the attached lift.

The armor plate, a round cell battery in lead-acid technology, is taken exclusively in the forklift sector. It has tubular cells in which there is active material. This creates a very large surface area. You can draw current from this battery for a very long time and also discharge it very deeply without damaging it.

Maintenance is mandatory

Even though the modern starter battery no longer has plugs to make it easier to handle, especially for industry, it still needs to be maintained. For professional traction batteries, there are even water tanks to compensate for the loss of liquid.

The flooded battery: An absolute mass product. Proven technology. Cost-effective. And it is also insensitive during charging.
