Sealed maintenance-free GEL battery with grid plates | electrolyte thickened into a gel-like mass | wet charged

intAct Active-Power GELMaintain-free and uncomplicated

With low self-discharge for the seasonal operation of additional consumers on boats or in mobile homes. Robust power-supply for recreational and smaller solar applications.

Our recommendation for anyone looking for a more cycle-resistant, spill-proof supply battery.

Features

  • Leak-proof

Because the electrolyte here is bound as a gel and the battery is tightly sealed and equipped with a safety valve, it is leak-proof.

Advantage: This battery is suitable for use on water, e.g. for powering on-board equipment or navigation instruments on boats, or wherever a leak-proof battery is required.

  • Maintenance free

Benefit: You don't have to worry about water level checks and refills.

  • Added Benefit: Dual-Purpose

This battery is also suitable for light drive applications, e.g. for winches and navigation equipment on a boat, or for light and water pump in a garden shed.

Benefit: For any application where you want to power a small electric motor, plus power small appliances.

Characteristics

  • Multifunctional battery for increased cyclical use. 500 cycles according to IEC 254-1.
  • Longer life expectancy than conventional lead-acid batteries.
  • Extremely resistant to vibration.
  • Sealed maintenance-free. VRLA battery with gas recombination and safety valves, where refilling is neither possible nor necessary.
  • Wet charged. Ready to use.
  • Leak-proof. Can also be installed at an angle, as the electrolyte is immobilzed as a gel and the battery is tightly sealed.

WHAT IS A GEL BATTERY?
What is a camper battery?
A supply battery used in motorhomes or campers, colloquially known as a camper battery. Typically, it is charged with stationary charging current at the RV parking lot or via a solar system, because the alternator is not sufficient to provide the necessary …
What types of supply batteries are there?
In order to withstand the stress of cyclic operation for a long time without an excessive drop in performance, the active material in supply batteries is particularly well protected. Depending on the technology used, this is done in different ways: In …
Our absolutely maintenance-free motorcycle batteries
intAct Bike-Power AGM, intAct Bike-Power SLA, intAct Bike-Power GEL, intAct Bike-Power HVT and intAct Bike-Power GEL HVT-HD are valve regulated lead-acid batteries or VRLA batteries (VRLA=Valve Regulated Lead-Acid). VRLA batteries produce much less gas …
What does absolutely maintenance-free mean?
Absolutely maintenance-free batteries are valve-regulated lead-acid batteries or VRLA batteries (VRLA = Valve Regulated Lead-Acid) that are sealed at the factory. Here, significantly less gas is produced than in wet batteries. The gas produced remains …
Why should you charge wet batteries open?
Gases are produced during charging. As they rise, they mix the battery acid. It is better for the battery if it is open during this process. Important: This only applies to initial charging and to all batteries that can be opened. Never open a battery by force!
Checking the battery step by step
There are many reasons for weakening or failing batteries. An important step in tracking them down is to measure the voltage with a battery tester. Here's how: 1. preparation Disconnect the battery from the vehicle, if possible remove it. Tips on how …
What does maintenance-free mean?
In maintenance-free batteries, the electrolyte is in liquid form. They are usually closed at the factory, often with a double or labyrinth lid in which any gases produced condense and remain in the battery. In normal operation, maintenance-free ones do …
Time for recovery
Before the winter or summer break, it is best to remove the battery or at least disconnect it and store it in a cool (ideally at 10 to 15 °C) and dry place. Charge every 4 to 6 weeks for 24 to 48 hours with a suitable charger. Check the state of charge …
Pay attention to the state of charge
We recommend: Check the charge level every 2 - 3 months if ... ... the vehicle is often left unused. ... you drive a lot of short distances. ... many consumers are installed. ... it is cold. ... in start-stop systems the engine does not switch off as …
What waterproof brings
Ideally, batteries should be kept dry. Even slight moisture can promote leakage currents. If you've noticed condensation on your battery frequently in the past, such as with temperature fluctuations, or water can get to your battery, it's worth considering …
Installing the starter battery or motorcycle battery
First connect the positive cable (usually red) to the positive terminal of the battery. Then connect the negative cable (usually black) to the negative terminal of the battery. If you install a start-stop battery, you must then register the battery in the vehicle system.
Every battery ages
With each charge/discharge process (cycle), active material is inevitably lost and the battery's performance declines. Once it has fallen to the point where it can no longer fulfil its purpose - e.g. start the vehicle, supply the consumers or drive the …
Batteries without vent hose
Only conventional, wet batteries need a vent hose, because they gas strongly during operation. The resulting steam can escape through the openings in the plugs. To prevent the vapour from damaging the vehicle, conventional batteries are vented to the …
Charging correctly step by step
Tip: For full performance: Charge before first installation! 1. preparation Check that your charger matches the battery. Does the charger support the correct charging voltage? Does the charging current provided match the battery? What charging curve …

What is a Supply Battery?

Supply batteries must provide power for as long as possible for consumers that are not connected to the regular power grid or the starter battery. Either in mobile applications, e.g. camping or in island installations such as mountain huts, or in safety applications when the normal power grid fails or to compensate for so-called mains wipers. Depending on the application, they are charged with a charger from the mains or via smaller photovoltaic or wind power systems.

So not only do they have to supply power for a long time and then take it up again well, but they also have to cope well with changing current levels and voltages.

Supply batteries are cyclic batteries, i.e. they are designed to continuously deliver current up to a maximum depth of discharge of 80% when supplying electrical consumers and then to be fully recharged again. In contrast, a starter battery delivers a short, strong current surge for starting the engine and is recharged by the alternator while driving.

Maintenance and Care

Absolutely maintenance-free batteries are valve-regulated lead-acid batteries or VRLA batteries (VRLA = Valve Regulated Lead-Acid) that are sealed at the factory. Here, significantly less gas is produced than in wet batteries. The gas produced remains in the circuit of the battery due to gas recombination. As a result, these batteries lose significantly less liquid. They do not need to be topped up, and it is not even possible to do so, as they cannot be opened again without damage.
