The world of scooter batteries offers different battery technologies: AGM batteries and gel batteries. AGM and gel types are valve-regulated, sealed VRLA batteries which, unlike conventional wet batteries, are maintenance-free and leak-proof.
AGM batteries are maintenance-free and leak-proof (up to 45° inclination). These batteries offer high starting power and are robust and vibration-resistant. They tolerate deep discharges of up to 50%. They are ideal for scooters with high energy requirements and short journeys. They are also best suited for scooters that are also ridden in winter, as they provide reliable starting power even in the cold.
Gel batteries are absolutely maintenance-free and leak-proof (up to 90° inclination). These batteries have low self-discharge and high vibration resistance. They tolerate deep discharge up to 50%. However, they are somewhat heavier and more sensitive to high temperatures. They are ideal for seasonally used scooters and long downtimes or if you have installed a few additional consumers on your scooter (ABS, grip or seat heating, hi-fi system, etc.). However, they are generally the most expensive option.
The choice of the ideal scooter battery depends on various influencing factors. In addition to the obvious physical characteristics, such as dimensions, pole type and arrangement, voltage, capacity and cold start performance, the following factors must also be taken into account:
