Which battery does a lawn tractor need?

A lawn tractor is a powerful garden tool designed for efficient and convenient mowing of large areas. The battery is at the heart of the starting process and ensures that the engine starts. Motorcycle batteries, motorcycle starter batteries or special lawn tractor batteries are usually used here, as they are compact, vibration-resistant and powerful.

Requirements for a lawn mower battery:

  • Leak-proof: Particularly important on uneven terrain or when driving across slopes.
  • Durable: Lawn tractors are often left unused for long periods, which is why low self-discharge is an advantage.
  • Maintenance-free: AGM batteries and GEL batteries are sealed and do not need to be topped up.
  • Cold-resistant: If the lawn mower tractor is used in winter (e.g. for clearing snow), a VRLA AGM battery is recommended.
  • High starting power: The 12V battery must supply enough power to start the engine even at low temperatures.
