Car batteries - Reliable power sources for your vehicle

The car battery, also known as the starter battery, is the central energy heart of every vehicle. Its main task is to provide electrical energy for starting the engine. It also supplies power to a large number of electrical systems in the vehicle, even when the engine is not running. Modern vehicles with comfort and safety systems such as air conditioning, seat heating, anti-lock braking system (ABS) and electronic stability program (ESP) are dependent on a reliable battery supply, as the alternator cannot supply these consumers alone, especially in city traffic at low speeds.

Wet batteries are the most common type of starter battery and are considered a proven and economical solution. They are known as 'flooded' batteries as their lead plates are fully immersed in liquid electrolyte. Older designs required regular topping up with distilled water, while modern variants are often sealed to minimize water loss. These are known as maintenance-free car batteries.
Wet batteries are comparatively inexpensive to purchase and can supply high currents for engine starting. Their technology is robust and they are highly recyclable. However, they wear out more quickly with frequent charging and discharging and are sensitive to deep discharges. The liquid electrolyte makes them more susceptible to damage from vibrations and requires upright mounting.
