Operating instructions

Instructions for use, warnings and safety instructions for AGM motorcycle batteries with liquid electrolytes (in the acid container supplied)

Commissioning

General information
• This battery was shipped dry and is only activated when filled with the acid pack supplied.
•
Only fill the battery with the acid supplied, if packaged separately.
•
Unlike conventional batteries, AGM batteries do not require topping up with water. These sealed batteries must not be opened after commissioning. Opening them would impair the battery function.
Always observe the warnings and safety instructions.

Always charge the battery before installation

Batteries can lose charge during storage. We therefore recommend fully charging each battery before installation to ensure optimum performance.

General instructions

•
The temperature of the battery and battery acid should preferably be above 10 °C.
•
Only install this battery in the vehicle in the position specified by the manufacturer. Always ensure that the battery is sufficiently ventilated. Follow the vehicle manufacturer’s instructions.
•
Add these instructions to the vehicle’s operating instructions.
3.1 Removing and installing the battery
If you are not sure about the correct procedure for removing/installing the battery, please contact a qualified workshop.
Removal:
•
Switch off the engine and all electrical consumers before installation.
•
Expose the battery removal area.
•
Always disconnect the negative terminal first and then the positive terminal.
Installation:
•
Expose the battery installation area.
•
Avoid short circuits, e.g. using tools.
•
Connect the positive terminal first and then the negative terminal. Ensure that the terminal clamps are firmly and securely seated.
•
Transfer other parts such as the terminal cap, retaining bracket, hose connections and connection bracket (if present) from the old battery to the new one.
3.2 Storage and transportation
•
Only store batteries in cool, dry places.
•
Protect batteries from direct sunlight.
•
Protect the positive terminal from short circuits (put on the terminal cap or insulate with adhesive tape).
•
Only store filled batteries vertically and protect them from tipping over so that no acid can escape.
•
Only transport batteries vertically and protect them from tipping over.
•
Check the battery charge regularly. Recharge if necessary (see point 4).
3.3 Maintenance
•
Keep the battery clean and dry.
•
Only clean the pole terminals and the surface of the battery with a damp anti-static cloth. Otherwise there is a risk of explosion.
•
Tighten the terminals properly.
•
Sealed batteries are maintenance-free - there is no need to top up with water. Therefore, never open the battery again.
•
If the starting current is too low, recharge the battery (see point 4).
•
If the battery is not used for a longer period of time (e.g. in winter), it is essential to maintain the charge with a charge retention device. Carefully remove the battery before charging.

Charging the battery externally

•
Only use suitable chargers and observe the operating instructions for the charger.
•
Do not charge frozen batteries or batteries with a temperature above 45 °C.
•
Connect the positive terminal (+) of the battery to the positive terminal of the charger and the negative terminal (-) of the battery to the negative terminal of the charger.
•
Only switch on/plug in the charger after connecting the battery.
•
When charging is complete, first switch off the charger and then disconnect the connections.
•
Interrupt the charging process immediately if the battery becomes hot or leaks acid.
•
Remove the battery from the vehicle (see section 3.1).
•
Ensure good ventilation when charging in closed rooms.

Acid filling (by dealer)

Die Grafik soll das vorbereiten einer AGM Motorradbatterie für das befüllen mit einem Säurepack darstellen.
A. Preparing the battery
Place the battery on a flat surface. Remove the sealing strip.

B. Preparing the battery acid holder
Take the battery acid holder from the plastic bag. Remove the strip from the acid pack and lay it aside for later use.
Die Grafik soll zeigen, dass die Siegel vor der Öffnung des Säurepacks auf keinen Fall durchbohrt oder entfernt werden dürfen.
Important: Do not remove the seals from the openings or puncture them.

C. Filling with battery acid

Turn the battery acid holder over and place it on the battery so that the six sealed openings are lined up with the battery’s six filler openings. Now press the holder downwards so it breaks the seals. The battery acid will now start to run into the battery. Important: Make sure that the battery acid holder is not tilted, as this may prevent the battery acid from flowing out.

D. Making sure the battery acid is flowing
Air bubbles must rise from all six filler openings until the holder is empty. Please note: If no air bubbles rise from the filler openings, gently tap on the holder. When filling, never remove the acid holder from the battery.
E. Removing the battery acid holder
Make sure that all the battery acid has drained from the holder. If there is still some battery acid left in the holder, then gently tap on the holder as described above. Then gently pull the holder out of the battery. Remove any remaining acid droplets with a damp, anti-static cloth.

Die Grafik soll zeigen, wie die Batterie wieder verschlossen wird.

F. Closing the battery
Push the cap strip down firmly and evenly with both hands. The strip should be at the same height as the
top of the battery. The filling process is now complete. The cap strip may not be removed. There is no need to add water or battery acid to the battery. Wait 30 minutes for the acid to be absorbed before installing the battery into the vehicle.
Approximately 30 minutes after filling the battery, the battery voltage should be measured with a voltmeter. If this is above 12.7 volt, the battery is ready for immediate use. If the battery voltage is lower, it should be recharged (see Point 3).

First aid
• If acid fumes are inhaled: provide for fresh air. In case of irregular breathing or respiratory arrest, seek medical dvice immediately and administer first aid. In case of respiratory irritation: consult a physician.
• If acid splashes in the eye: remove contact lenses if possible. Immediately rinse with cleanwater for at least 15minutes. Then consult a physician.
• If acid splashes on the skin or in the hair: immediately remove any contaminated clothing. Rinse skin or hair with water or in the shower.
• If acid splashes on clothing: absorb spillage to prevent material damage. Immediately neutralise with soda or soapy water and rinse thoroughly with water.
• If acid is swallowed: immediately rinse mouth and drink plenty of water. Do NOT induce vomiting. If you feelunwell, call a POISON CENTRE or a physician.
