Deutschland GP - Hohenstein Ernstthal - Race // 18.07.2010
The Derbi-riding Ajo Motorsport duo of Spanish Red Bull Ajo Motorsport rider Marc Marquez and German Avant Mitsubishi Ajo rider Sandro Cortese ran a superb race today in the German Grand Prix at Sachsenring. The race started to a drying but still a bit damp track after morning rain, but with all front runners starting with slick-tyres. The beginning of the race saw some precise riding from the riders as they took on the drying but still slippery track. With the track drying fast it was Marquez who soon took to the front, fighting a hard battle with Pol Espargaro for the first place. Behind the leading duo a fight for third place was going on throughout the race, with Cortese rising quickly through the ranks to the podium fight in his home race. The leading duo battled hard for the top spot until the final laps saw Espargaro unfortunately slide out of the race leaving Marquez to take his fifth victory in a row. The team’s success was lifted yet another step as home hero Cortese took third place on the podium. Marquez’s victory was the 100th Grand Prix Victory of Derbi.
MARC MARQUEZ, RED BULL AJO MOTORSPORT:
“The race today was really difficult even if we started from pole. The track was damp, so we took the first laps easy but when I saw it was getting dry I started pushing. We had a good fight with Pol and I was taken by surprise when he crashed but fortunately we didn’t collide. The victory here is very important for the Championship, and now we go for the short holiday in good position.”
SANDRO CORTESE, AVANT MITSUBISHI AJO:
“The start of the race was really difficult. Some parts of the lap were a bit dryer than others, and it was really difficult to figure out a good pace with slicks, and I think I was too soft in the beginning. But then I started pushing and in the end we get podium so I’m very happy - it is really special feeling to be on the podium here in Germany!”
TEAM MANAGER AKI AJO:
”It is a great feeling right now, both riders on the podium today! With the results of Marc we have to be calm though, I think we just can’t keep on winning all the time, so we need to keep our concentration in the Championship. Sandro did a great rise from 10th in the early laps to the podium. We started a new working system with him in Aragon some two weeks ago and it seems the change was for the better.”
