Katalonien GP - Barcelona - Race // 04.07.2010
Spanish Red Bull Ajo Motorsport rider Marc Marquez took hold of the Championship lead today after a dominant victory in his home Grand Prix at the Barcelona circuit. After setting the pace in all of the practice sessions of the weekend Marquez started from pole position and cleared off from the start, leaving the rest of the field to fight for second position. The Barcelona victory was fourth consecutive victory for the young Spaniard, making him the youngest ever rider to win four back-to-back races. Also German Avant Mitsubishi Ajo rider Sandro Cortese was among the top-honour fighters in the race, having a race long battle for fifth place and finally securing 4th place at the chequered flag after pulling off an impossible passing manoeuvre in the final corner.
After the season’s seventh race today Marc Marquez takes the lead of the Championship with Cortese rising to 6th place overall.
MARC MARQUEZ, RED BULL AJO MOTORSPORT:
“Of course the win here in front of all the fans and at my home track is incredible. At the moment I feel really good with the team and with the bike, but we need to keep our feet on the floor. I think for sure in Sachsenring it’s going to be more difficult, but today we enjoy this a little bit.”
SANDRO CORTESE, AVANT MITSUBISHI AJO:
“I thought I was faster in the final part of the track, so I kind of knew I would be able to make the pass there. Anyway, I’m quite happy now, even if we would have been faster with the other front tyre today. But I chose this one for the race because I’ve had some trouble with the other one before.”
TEAM MANAGER AKI AJO:
”I have to say it’s a little bit strange feeling to win so many races in a row. I do feel more cautious now than before, because the season is still very long. We need to keep our focus and take some good points from the coming races. Winning is not the most important thing at the moment, it’s more the reliability and the good work of the whole team that counts.”
